Statutory Register of Members Interests
Pursuant to the Local Government Act 2000, all Councillors have to sign a declaration to abide by and uphold the City Council's Code of Conduct for Members. A copy of which can be found in the Constitution under Volume B, Part 3, Section A (along with other Protocols and related Guidance). A copy is attached below for ease of reference.
The City Council's Monitoring Officer maintains a Statutory Register of Members Interests that have been brought to his attention. Councillors are obliged, by law, to keep their Statutory Register up-to-date and to inform the Monitoring Officer of any changes within 28 days of the relevant event. A Councillor's failure to keep the Statutory Register up-to-date can be the subject of a complaint to the Standards Board for England www.standardsboard.gov.uk.
A copy of the up-to-date Statutory Register of Members Interests can be inspected, free of charge, at the Council House Reception Desk during normal office hours. A small fee will be payable if a copy is required.
In keeping with the Council's e-governance agenda, an electronic copy of the Statutory Register of Members Interests on the website together with a copy of the Statutory Register of Gifts / Hospitality (where applicable) has been placed on the website. The electronic copy is not, however, the Statutory Register of Members Interests; although every effort will be taken to ensure, so far as is possible, that the electronic copy continues to match the Statutory Register of Members' Interests kept at the Council House Reception Desk. Members of the public should, therefore, be careful to check both copies before relying upon the information appearing in the electronic version.
Furthermore, as this electronic version is not a legal requirement just an exercise of local discretion to meet e-governance targets some Councillors have chosen to "opt-out" of this electronic version and, as such, an appropriate "cross-reference" page has been inserted for the same. Please note the electronic version is for viewing purposes only and, therefore, non-printable.
Electronic copies of the Statutory Registers are available on the individual Councillor pages
