Exchanging Places

Birmingham Exchanging Places is an HGV and Cycle Safety Campaign.

On Saturday 7 March 2015, Birmingham Cycle Revolution is welcoming back their award winning Birmingham Exchanging Places campaign with an event in Sutton Park.

From 10:00 to 15:00, the team will be at Boldmere Gate entrance, Sutton Park offering members of the public the chance to sit in the driver’s seat of a HGV and experience first-hand the blind spots faced by drivers of large vehicles.

We can all help to make our roads safer by being aware of the dangers and taking steps to reduce the risk of collisions. Some insider knowledge about how HGVs operate, together with some driving and cycling dos and don’ts can help us all travel more safely on our roads.

Officers from the City Council, West Midlands Police and Jaguar Land Rover will offer members of the public useful safety information, discuss the various scenarios that can occur whilst cycling near HGVs, and give practical advice about staying safe on our roads.

Read advice for cyclists and HGV drivers on our Exchanging Places page.

Love your bike

Love Your Bike

If you've left your bike feeling a little un-loved over the winter months, it's time to dust off the handlebars and give it, and you, some TLC!

Care for your bike and your bike will care for you. Like any machine, a bike will work better and last longer if you care for it properly. Get into the habit of checking your bike regularly - simple checks such as the A.B.C and M-Check can help you have hassle free riding and avoid repairs.

...and your bike will love you back

The benefits of cycling reach further than just helping you fit into your jeans. Remember, a healthy bike leads to a healthy mind!

Riding regularly can...

  • Improve your memory
  • Increase your problem solving abilities and creativity
  • Lower your carbon footprint
  • Reduce feelings of depression
  • Save you money
  • Give you a better night's sleep
  • Help you lose those extra pounds
  • Reduce the risk of suffering from a stroke, coronary heart disease, cancer and even diabetes
  • Set you up for a happy and productive day
  • Help alleviate stress and relieve anxiety

And best of all, cycling is a great way for you to enjoy time with family and friends and explore the great outdoors!
