Corporate Communications is responsible for ensuring that Birmingham City Council, its policies, services and events are promoted consistently and coherently to appropriate audiences in the most efficient and cost effective way possible. It is tasked with shaping and projecting the council’s image, which impacts on the reputation of Birmingham and how the city as a whole is perceived by its workforce, residents, the business community, visitors and the outside world.
Corporate Communications supports the council’s equality duty and assists the council in meeting its commitment to value diversity and promote equality for everyone by providing targeted and adapted communications and information in relation to services offered and internal communications functions. The nature of Corporate Communications’ work is as a supporting function across the council in accordance with corporate priorities, which helps to ensure that key messages get to all service users as well as its workforce. Corporate Communications also attempts to reflect the composition of the city’s population through its own employees, thereby drawing on their different perspectives and experiences which add value to the way Corporate Communications and the council operates.
Community engagement and participation is supported by many of the city’s calendar of community events and campaigns which are either delivered or supported by Corporate Communications and help to encourage residents of Birmingham to have a stake in society and participate in their local community with an increase in civic pride.
Corporate Communications also liaises and collaborates with external partners and the Equality & Diversity Team in communicating equality and diversity issues and information to members of staff through various corporate and directorate publications.

This information is by no means exhaustive as Corporate Communications also provides planned campaigns, news management and design services in collaboration with the different service areas of the city council to ensure that the information provided is accessible to all.

Forward – is a quarterly newspaper which provides key information and messages about the services we offer and the policies and initiatives which affect residents and citizens of Birmingham. Forward now also incorporates 'Letterbox' which means that it has a number of pages with articles designed to be of particular interest to the council's tenants and leaseholders. The Letterbox pages are available as a large print version, in Braille or on CD on request.
