Neighbourhood Planning - The Process

The Localism Act sets out the Government’s policy of enabling local communities to prepare Neighbourhood Development Plans (NDPs) for their area.

We have established a process to allow Neighbourhood Planning to be as open and inclusive as possible. Since only one Neighbourhood Development Plan can cover an area, it will help reduce the possibilities of arguments arising that challenge the process, a Forum’s representativeness, or their right to produce a NDP.

Below is a summary of the new Regulations, which we will follow when assessing any applications to undertake a Neighbourhood Development Plan.

If you are thinking about a Neighbourhood Development Plan for your area, contact us beforehand so we can help you through the process.

Stage 1: The application

Stage 2: Publicising an application

Stage 3: Evidence gathering and plan preparation

Stage 4: Submitting the NDP and associated information

Stage 5: Independent check and examination

Stage 6: The referendum

Stage 7: Decision on proposal

The adopted NDP will then help shape the area and guide new development, as it will be a key consideration when planning applications are submitted to us.
