Moor Pool Harborne Conservation Area

Moor Pool Conservation Area was designated in July 1970. It comprises the entirety of the Moor Pool Tenants Estate.
The Moor Pool Estate was designed following the principles of the Garden City Movement as a reaction to Victorian terraced housing. Although constructed on the edge of what was then Harborne village, it is now totally surrounded by more recent properties but at the same time provides an obvious contrast to them. The area is exceptionally green and semi rural in feel, partly due to the high number of trees but also due to the inclusion of allotments which allow as many properties to back onto green space rather than a road.
In 2006, we restricted the types of work often permitted without planning permission to retain the character of the area. This is know as an Article 4 Direction. It means that planning permission is required from us, for example, for alterations that can be seen from the road, bowling green or pool. More details are available in the newsletter below, and the formal Article 4 Direction will be added to this page soon.
A Character Appraisal and Management Plan for the area was produced in 2012 and provides a framework for the preservation and enhancement of the character of the area.
