The Jewellery Quarter Conservation Area was originally designated in 1980 and has been subsequently extended twice. The Jewellery Quarter is unique to Birmingham with its small workshops and history of working with precious metals dating back to the 16th century. The Conservation Area was designated to protect and enhance the character of this important historical area.
A character appraisal and management plan for the Jewellery Quarter was produced in 2002 and a Design Guide in 2005. Both of which provide a framework and advice on preserving and enhancing the character of the area.
A map showing the boundary of the conservation area is below along with the original designation report and reports concerning the the subsequent extensions to the area of designation.
