Birmingham City Council

Bullring

The Bullring is situated in the Digbeth area of the City Centre and
Birmingham's oldest retail destination. After many years of discussion, debate and consultation, during which the Bullring changed ownership a number of times, a major redevelopment scheme was proposed by Hammerson Plc. This was approved by Birmingham City Council in line with the Bullring Markets Quarter Urban Design Framework.

Work started in 2000 on the 50 million scheme which transforms the area. It was believed to be Europe's largest city centre regeneration scheme of the time.

Facilities

The new 'Bullring' offers leading international retailers, cafes, restaurants and leisure facilities, alongside the redeveloped outdoor and indoor markets. It trades from three principle malls all with pedestrian access and incorporating two major department stores (Selfridges and Debenhams) and over 100 shop units. Bullring is an attractive retail destination with a new public square around Saint Martin's Church.

The new Bullring is well served by public transport including improved bus facilities and better links to New Street Station and Moor Street Station, which has been restored and extended. Modern car parking for 3,200 cars is provided on site with 6000 further spaces within five minutes walk.
