All about me
I was first elected to the City Council in 2003 securing re-election twelve months later. My current term of office expires in 2016.
I have lived in the Ward I represent on the City Council for the last eighteen years, so I fully understand local issues and residents aspirations for the Springfield area. I have taken up over 17,000 issues since being elected many of which have been successfully resolved.
I am committed to keeping in touch with residents and listening to their views on a wide range of issues. I therefore deliver regular newsletters to keep residents informed of my campaigns on local issues.
I undertake regular surveys to obtain residents views on community issues. The feedback I receive enables me to take up topics of concern with the appropriate Council departments.
I also deliver questionnaires on specific subjects. A recent questionnaire on climate change revealed that 73% of people who responded felt that it was an important or very important issue that needs to be effectively tackled. I have also issued questionnaires on crime and the NHS which has provided me with some interesting results.
I also carry our door step surveys which provide me with an opportunity to meet my constituents and discuss with them local and community issues on a face to face basis.
I am particularly interested in regeneration, the environment, climate change and tackling worklessness.
I also regularly attend Police Tasking Meetings which decide policing priorities in the local community.
Outside politics I am a professional archaeologist in the field of Romano-British pottery. I have written a number of books and articles and I continue to carry out research and occasionally lecture at Universities in my specialist subject area.
