Councillor Paul Tilsley - Sheldon Ward - My News
The last year or so has certainly seen progress in the Yardley constituency. We have the new play facilities for children in Sheldon New Park; in South Yardley we have new facilities in Hobmoor Road and Holder Road. We also have plans for new facilities in Stechford and South Yardley at Glebe Farm.
Another positive development is that we now have set clear improvement targets for all services in the constituency. These, together with ongoing individual service reviews, can only serve to improve the way services are delivered to the people of Yardley. We are also making progress in considering individual neighbourhoods, which will enable us to get closer to the people we serve. Lastly we now have Yardley's own web page up and running and this should be a useful source of information for staff and public alike.
I am strong supporter of education and the importance of good education, and have also been involved with the Digital Birmingham initiative from its infancy stage. We have successfully secured agreements with BT to help make Birmingham into a wireless City Centre for the 21st century.
As the Chairman of the Birmingham Strategic Partnership, I also work hard at developing partnerships throughout Birmingham to take both the public and private sectors forward and enforcing the belief that Birmingham should be recognised as the Second City of the UK, next to London.
I am also a Champion of sustainability and am working with colleagues towards finding ways to make Birmingham a more sustainable city, including investigating alternative fuels and vehicles, energy saving products and the different ways that sustainable development can be utilised to influence new and future construction in and around the city.
