Positive Behaviour In Schools: The Birmingham Strategy

The Education and Inspections Act 2006 places a duty on governing bodies to promote wellbeing and community cohesion, and to take the Children and Young People's Plan into consideration.

Birmingham is committed to achieving better outcomes for its children and young people. It also wants to make the city a safe, rewarding and enjoyable place in which adults can live and work.

Developing and implementing a coherent citywide strategy to promote good behaviour is central to how schools and the Local Authority will work together to achieve these outcomes.

Consequently, behaviour management in schools and the wider community is being given a high priority in Birmingham, and a citywide Anti-Social Behaviour Strategy has been developed by the council. We will incorporate into this a strategy for managing social, emotional and behavioural difficulties within the particular context of education, in schools, services and complementary provision.
