Central Library Changes from January 2013
IMPORTANT NEWS!
Preparations to open the Library of Birmingham on 3 September 2013 are entering the final stages. We have worked very hard to maintain services in Central Library for as long as possible. It is essential that we now wind down services, so that we are ready to open the Library of Birmingham on time.
Opening hours from 2013
Central Library is now closed from Floor 3 upwards.
Opening Hours (Ground, 1st and 2nd Floors):
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10am - 6pm
Wednesday 10am - 8pm
Saturday 9am - 5pm
Please note that Centre for the Child and Business & Learning are now closed.
Services available
- Reduced Lending Library service with limited children’s and teenage story books (Internet Centre)
- Join the library (Ground Floor)
- Newspapers, reading and study area on Floor 1
- 38 Bookable PCs on (34) Ground Floor and (4) Floor 1
- Customer Services and Birmingham Tourist Information Office
- The REP’s Box Office

Wednesday 10am - 7.45pm
Saturday 9am - 4.45 pm

The current Central Library will close to the public forever at 5pm on 29 June 2013 - apart from Customer Services, Birmingham Tourist Information Office and The REP’s Box Office which will remain open until September.
Online Services
While the library is closed you can still access many services online at the Digital Library.
Hours extended at some Community Libraries
Birmingham has 39 Community Libraries and until September 2013, those closest to the City Centre – Spring Hill, Ward End, Erdington and Handsworth – will open longer. Details will be available shortly.New website
