John Wynn, Assistant Director - Legal & Democratic Services

John has responsibility for leading the provision of legal services across the council. John and Legal Services have a track record of innovation and efficiency over a long time and in the past year alone have saved the council £2m. John is keen to offer this knowledge and understanding to the wider public sector.

John has spent 12 years in private practice and over 18 years in local government. Throughout his career John has dealt with most areas of law - contentious and non-contentious. He has predominantly focused on property, company, financial and corporate governance issues. John has been involved with regeneration developments, including Masshouse and Eastside as well as some of the latest PFI schemes such as the Schools PFI, Building Schools for the Future and Highways PFI. He has also taken a lead role in major development projects such as Birmingham Gateway (New Street Station redevelopment) and the Library Birmingham. John sits on various corporate and project boards within the council providing the corporate governance input essential to any well run public sector project.

John works on wider governance issues in the West Midlands region, working with and through the Joint Committee on issues such as the Birmingham Airport expansion and was co-developer of the constitution for the Greater Birmingham & Solihull LEP.

John is the council's Deputy Monitoring Officer.
