What we do
Erdington Crime Fiction Reading Group was established in 1995 and is open to anyone interested in reading and discussing crime fiction. The sessions are very informal and provide an opportunity to talk about books you have enjoyed, or maybe even hated.
Reviews
The programme usually follows themes with several books to choose from rather than concentrating on a single title.
In 1998 we received a grant from Arts for Everyone Express to develop a series of author visits and Jane Adams, Chris Niles, Mike Phillips, Ann Granger and James Hawes came to give lively and informative talks about their work.
Themes, books and author visits are all chosen by group members. In the early years Lawrence Block, Simon Brett, Priscilla Masters, Val Mcdermid and Betty Rowlands all gave talks to the reading group. More recently contributors to 'Birmingham Noir'- a book of short stories with a Birmingham flavour, visited the group to give readings from their stories. Also acclaimed Irish authors Colin Bateman and John Connolly, provided a lively double act in May 2005, talking about their writing. Mike Phillips, author of 'Windrush' visited in 2005 and talked about his crime novels and his contribution to the popular 'Quick Reads'series.
Reviews by members of the reading group.
