Gambling Licensing Policy Consultation
Birmingham City Council is required to prepare and publish a statement of the principles that it proposes to apply when exercising its functions under the Gambling Act 2005. These aim to:
- Prevent gambling being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime;
- Ensure that gambling is carried out in a fair and open way;
- Protect children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
The current policy has been in place since January 2010 and has to be reviewed every three years.
On 04 December 2012 the City Council approved the revised statement of principles which has been updated to reflect changes in the statutory guidance and will become effective from 31 January 2013. The revised statement of principles is attached below.
