The Duchess of Cornwall visits Centre for the Child

A Royal visitor to our children's library!

On Thursday 10 December 2009, Centre for the Child was pleased to welcome Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall. The Duchess stayed for a full programme of events and kindly opened our advent calendar.

The Duchess joined in with the nursery rhymes during our Shake, Rattle and Rhyme session for babies, toddlers and their families.

Sitting on her left are Birmingham Poet Laureate Adrian Johnson and Young Poet Laureate India Miller.

India performed her poem Library Card written specially for the occasion. You can find out about India's experience of the day in her online blog.

Everyone also watched a storytelling of 'The Gruffalo's Child' with pupils from Nelson primary school,

The storytelling was provided by one of the fabulous performers from Annamation, who are regular visitors to our Young Readers festival.

The Duchess of York also read a poem called 'The Snowman' and spent time meeting and talking to some of children and young people who use Centre for the Child.
