Helen Berry was 13 years old and living in Handsworth when the war ended. Read her account of the VE Day celebrations of 1945 including the street parties, flags and bonfires where images of Hitler were burnt.

To commemorate VE Day 2005 the Archives and Local Studies and History sections in Birmingham Central Library put together an exhibition including old photographs, posters and other documents. The display is now available online.
