Centre for the Child is one of the largest children's libraries in Europe.

Our library holds over 93,861 books for children and young people

Centre for the Child staff helped to deliver 418 sessions to 5,429 children and 2,958 adults last year

The staff at Centre for the Child answered 15,329 enquiries from the public last year

We have a wide selection of children's books available in 52 different languages

Centre for the Child celebrated its 10th Birthday on March 8 2005. The original children's library was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1991 and was redesigned after wide consultation with local children, parents and carers. On the day Centre for the Child was officially reopened back in 1995, we were visited by Ant and Dec who were then stars of the children's tv show 'Byker Grove'.
