How to Join the Library

If your are under 16

  • Fill in a form and get it signed by a parent, carer or someone over 18. You can print off the form attached to the bottom of this page or ask for one in your local library.

If you are 16 or 17

What you can borrow

  • 8 books or story CDs/cassettes plus
  • 8 music CDs
  • 5 DVDs

DVDs: You may only borrow films appropriate to your age group. All you need to do is show proof of your age, such as a medical card or birth certificate, together with your library ticket the first time you borrow a DVD and your ticket will be updated with your age category. Staff may occasionally ask for proof of your age when you borrow DVDs after this if they are concerned that you don't look old enough for the item you want to borrow.

How long for

  • Books and talking books for up to 3 weeks
  • Music CDs for up to 2 weeks
  • Popular new DVDs for up to two nights
  • All other DVDs for up to seven nights

What it costs

  • It is free to join
  • Books and story CDs/cassettes are free to borrow if you are under 18
  • Music CDs cost 60p per item if you are under 18 and 80p per item for adults.
  • DVD hire charges are £2.50 for two nights for some popular new films and £1.50 for seven nights for all other titles
  • Fines are charged on all DVDs which are returned late: £1.00 per day for Top Titles and 50p per day for all other DVDs.
