Are you aged between 11-17?
Are you a budding poet? Do you write poetry and would you love to read it to an audience? Would you like to develop your poetry writing skills and promote poetry to other children and young people?
If you can answer yes to any of these questions, why don't you apply to become Birmingham's ninth Young Poet Laureate?
The position of Birmingham's Young Poet Laureate is unique.
It will offer you the chance to meet with poets and take part in local and national events. You will also work with Birmingham's Poet Laureate on various projects and get help with your writing. The post is for a year from 3 October 2013 to 2 October 2014.
If you are selected you will be presented with a an iPad, a framed certificate and £100 worth of books.

How Can I Apply?
You need to:
- be 11-17 years old.
- live or attend school or college in Birmingham.
- submit four poems (one of them should be on the theme of 'Water').
Tell us in 250 words
- why you want to be Birmingham's ninth Young Poet Laureate
- how you would promote poetry to the diverse range of children and young people in the city.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a poetry and performance workshop and to perform in front of judges and an audience at the Library of Birmingham on Saturday 7 September. They will be judged on their poems, personal statement and performance.
A selection of the poems sent in will be displayed on the Young Poet Laureate website: www.libraryofbirmingham.com/younglaureate
Get your parent's/guardian's permission to take part. This will include you participating in the award ceremony and possibly other civic/national events at which the media may be present. The parent/guardian must also give permission for the poems/information from your entry and your photograph to be used in Young Poet Laureate publicity. We will need to confirm this with them before you can be appointed.
