182 miles - A poem by Matt Windle

Matt Windle was the Young Poet Laureate for Birmingham 2007-2008

Matt Windle

Matt says 'My dad's mate is running 7 marathons in 7 days and they
asked if I would write a poem about this. So that's what this is about
and they are all the different countries they're running in.

182 miles

We're pushing boundaries, living dreams
How ever hard that this may seem
7 days of non-stop running
You could say this is simply stunning
First day we'll be in Port Stanley
That's when we're feeling good and looking manly
But after 26 miles we're feeling slow
That's one down and 6 to go
We're starting to think this idea was silly
Running in the boiling heat even though it's in 'Chile'
Next up L.A in the states
We're falling asleep but need to stay awake
We're feeling stiff and our feet are blue
But at least we're more than half way through
Step off the plane and we're in the Land of Oz
But there's no wizard or a yellow brick road to help us through this one
26 miles later we take off and begin to fly
Only then to prepare for running in Dubai
After 130 miles we're tired and feeling slow
But now it's five down with only 2 to go
Now we're in Tunisia not sure we can run much more
But to spur us on we think to ourselves it's all for a good cause
Finally we're in London running in the UK
We hope and pray our legs get us through one final day
Now we've made it and the finish line is in sight
Even though we're aching we've got an experience to last us all our life
So after 182 miles we're exhausted and feeling slow
But now that's 7 down and gladly none to go
