Areas of Special Interest
There are a number of special collections at the Library of Birmingham.
The Black Writing section features non-fiction writing from the USA, the Caribbean, Africa and South Asia as well as Black British and British Asian authors.
Gay, Lesbian and Bi - our collection features non-fiction and fiction titles including authors such as Sarah Waters and Patrick Gale.
Languages - we have books in a variety of languages. These include large Chinese and Vietnamese collections in addition to the main European and community languages. We have recently added new collections of books in Polish, Russian and Arabic. There is also a Language Learning collection featuring easy-reading books, dual-language dictionaries and teach-yourself guides.
The Parents Collection covers all aspects of childcare, from birth to the teenage years.
The Local Studies Collection is devoted to Birmingham and its history. It covers areas such as transport, industry, sport, memories and folklore and much more.
Other sections which may be of particular interest to you - the Community Information collection, for all of your consumer needs, such as your rights and the law, family issues and personal finance. The Teenage fiction and non-fiction sections are aimed at young people but can be borrowed and enjoyed by anybody.
