Prince Rupert attacked Birmingham 1643
During the English Civil War, Birmingham was Parliamentarian. On Easter Monday 1643 Prince Rupert was leading Royalist forces from Warwickshire to Staffordshire. They attacked Birmingham, and 'put divers to the Sword, and burnt about 80 Houses to ashes'.
They also 'caused one Mr. Porters Blademill in the Towne, to be pulled downe, wherein swordblades were made and imployed, onely for the service of the Parliament'.
