However there may be some job vacancies advertised on our website where our statement does not apply (i.e. some vacancies in schools and for other organisations’ jobs). We will try to take account of any particular needs you have in relation to the recruitment and selection process, such as providing information in Braille or on tape, and ensuring a suitable interview venue.

Two Ticks Disability Symbol

Some years ago, the authority signed up to the 'Two Ticks Disability Symbol' which is operated by the Employment Service. The award of the symbol means that the Council has agreed to make commitments in relation to the employment of people with disabilities. These are:

• To interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy - and consider them on their abilities.

• To ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time - but at least once a year - with disabled employees what we and they can do to make sure they can develop and use their abilities.

• To make every effort when employees become disabled, to ensure they stay in employment.

• To take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make the commitments work.

• To review these commitments, assess what has been achieved and plan ways to improve. Then we will let employees and the Employment Service know about progress and future plans.
