Birmingham City Council

Housing Services - Equality and Diversity

Birmingham City Council's housing services play an essential role in making sure that better use is made of all Birmingham's housing - regardless of who is responsible for it - and that our own services are flexible enough to meet the changing housing needs of our residents.

Our services include:

  • Working with housing associations, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and private sector partners to develop high-quality, affordable homes
  • Providing support to some of the most vulnerable people in Birmingham, through the Supporting People programme
  • Offering grants and loans to homeowners to improve housing conditions
  • Helping homeless people to find temporary accommodation.

Service Standards

We aim to provide an efficient and fair service for all and have produced a set of service standards covering all of the services we provide.

Annual Report to Tenants

Each year we publish a set of promises to tenants. These promises have set targets which are monitored and published quarterly. At the end of the year we produce an annual report to tell tenants how we have performed against those promises.

Here is the latest published annual report to tenants.

Landlord Services - Understanding our Customers

Birmingham is a very diverse city. In order to provide services which meet the changing needs of customers we collect and use profile information, provided by customers, whenever they access services – such as making applications for a council property, registering as homeless, accessing sheltered accommodation or requesting repairs service.

We have been able to improve the amount of information gathered by the following characteristics: Age, Gender, Disability, Ethnicity, Religion, and Sexual Orientation. This information is shared with services to ensure they take account of the changing profile of their customers and to tailor services accordingly.

Take a look at the Housing Performance page for all the latest profile and performance information.
