Supporting People - Prevention Through Active Inclusion Conference 2012
Birmingham Supporting People hosted a Prevention Through Active Inclusion Conference at The Council House on 9 October 2012. It was organised in partnership with the Eurocities’ 'Cities for Active Inclusion Network' who funded the event.
The conference showed how the programme is ‘transforming lives through housing related support’ and highlighted the personal benefits that support services bring to the lives of individuals, as well as the cost savings that these prevention services represent for other public services.
A wide range of people attended, including Councillors, European delegates, colleagues from Health, Social Care, Children, Young People and Families, Probation, Support Providers, Service Users, and other key stakeholders.
The links to the Eurocities’ Network showed how prevention strategies implemented both locally and nationally link to wider EU policy developments on active inclusion.
The event formed part of Supported Housing Month, which highlighted the innovative work being done within the sector and the vital role that housing related support plays in preventing recourse to more costly statutory services, as well as the benefit to the individual of receiving timely support to enable them to live more independently.
