What do you mean by ‘affordable warmth’?
As part of our affordable warmth service, we offer residents access to support, advice and Warm Front funding to improve energy efficiency within the home.

Measures to improve energy efficiency could include central heating, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation or draught proofing.

Most of our service is delivered by in partnership with external agencies, so most of these questions will direct you to third parties for information.

How will I know if there is an affordable warmth scheme in my area?
On occasion, Birmingham City Council partners with other organisations to deliver energy efficiency measures. If you would like to know more, please telephone the Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012.

What is Warm Front?
Warm Front is a government-funded initiative that provides grants to improve energy efficiency in the home.

Do I qualify for Warm Front?
If you own your own home or rent it from a private landlord, you may be eligible for a grant of up to £3,500 under the Warm Front Scheme.

Grants are available to those in receipt of certain benefits, as detailed on its website: http://www.warmfront.co.uk.

I am elderly and can’t empty my loft for it to be insulated. Who can help?
In general, if there are a small number of items and enough space, the installer will move them as he works. However, if there is limited space and too many items that will restrict movement they will have to be stored elsewhere during the installation.

Organisations such as Care & Repair and Age Concern may be able to provide the services of a handy man. To contact Care & Repair, telephone their general enquiry line on 0115 950 6500. To contact Age Concern Birmingham, telephone their central advice and information line on 0121 236 2197.
