Sutton Coldfield Housing Liaison Board
The Sutton Coldfield Housing Liaison Board represents council residents across the constituencies four wards, and works with other community and representative groups to ensure that the voices of all tenants are heard.
Various Departments attend Sutton HLB as invited by the Board to discuss issues of concern or to consult with the Board on best practice. Our Priorities
We're primarily aimed at resolving problems with the housing service, but we also discuss other issues such as:
- antisocial behaviour
- repairs
- security.
We regularly have guest speakers from organisations like:
- West Midlands Police
- Wilmott Dixon
- Housing Department.
This means we can speak to the people who can really do something about our concerns.
Our Achievements
Parking
Parking was a major issue with cars often parked on the pavement, forcing people with pushchairs or wheelchairs to walk in the road.
A fence has been erected to stop cars encroaching onto the pavement, making the area safer for pedestrians
Sheltered Housing Schemes
Fencing erected around a sheltered housing scheme to stop strangers hanging around and other types of antisocial behaviour.
An outdoor seating area created after a sheltered housing scheme approached the Housing Liaison Board for aid. We arranged for an old drying area to be slabbed and equipped with tables and chairs.
Security
Security doors have been fitted in areas where communal maisonette blocks had open, walk through landings, making residents feel safer and happier.
Security lighting and a CCTV camera fitted around a row of shops and the block of maisonettes next to it. This has greatly reduced the amount of crime the shops have suffered and the number of people that used to hang around this area at night.
