Birmingham Great Park (Archive)
The Birmingham Great Park is one of the largest private sector mixed use developments undertaken in the UK. It is located just off junction 4 of the M5. The Park is situated in Longbridge and is being developed by Corporate Land Developments Ltd. It was established in 1993 that the former hospital campus should be developed to provide offices, houses, industrial units, leisure facilities (consisting of a cinema and bowling alley), a supermarket, health centre, and an area of public open space.
Housing developments by Crest/ Bellway, Barratt and David Wilson were completed in 2002 and are now fully occupied. A variety of homes are provided, including executive detached houses, family homes, starter homes, elderly person bungalows, shared ownership homes, houses for rent and special needs homes.
Leisure facilities include a cinema, bowling complex, restaurants, health and fitness centre, social and bingo club, a day nursery and a sixty bedroom hotel. Corporate Land have funded a full-sized all weather sports pitch and pavilion which has been handed over to Birmingham City Council for public use.
In June 2000 a 52,000 square feet manufacturing unit was completed for Draexlmaier Automative UK, suppliers of wiring looms to Rover and other vehicle manufacturers. A further four industrial units will be constructed to individual occupiers requirements.
Over 1,500 jobs have been created at Birmingham Great Park.
This development is valued at 00 million and covers 200 acres (1 million square feet) of land. It is designed to provide 45 acres of trees, shrubs, open grassland and lakeside environment. A network of cycle routes have been developed to allow links with all areas of housing.
