The Unit consists of Environmental Protection Officers inspect authorised processes, respond to complaints about noise, odour, smoke and other problems associated with the operation of industrial processes and advise on technical matters for planning applications. The unit also advises on compliance with environmental legislation for businesses.

The department is responsible for dealing with development initiatives and planning applications for all new developments. We also have a key role in major city centre developments attracting new companies to Birmingham and improving the skills of unemployed local people.
