Safeguarding Birmingham pupils' access to education
The Pupil Connect team works to identify, track and trace all school aged children who are not in education or not on a school register. These children, when found, are placed in a mainstream school or in an appropriate place of education and, where needed, connected to appropriate support networks.
Effective links with other professionals, organisations and local authorities working for the protection and support of these disengaged children are created and maintained.
Where needed, Pupil Connect organises funding for relevant education other than in mainstream schools, links with these providers on behalf of individual pupils and their parents or carers and provides a co-ordinated information sharing network for these alternative provisions. The quality of these education places is evaluated by Pupil Connect, in accordance with Ofsted guidance, and all approved providers are listed in an alternative provision directory.
