Birmingham Audit - Risk Management

Risk Management Policy Statement

BCC's Risk Management Policy Statement (attached below) outlines the Council's approach to Risk Management. The Policy is supports the Council's long-term vision for Birmingham. The documents are reviewed each year and the updates approved by the Audit Committee.

Effective Risk Management will help achieve the strategic outcomes in the Council Plan by anticipating and assessing those risks that could prevent the delivery of the outcomes.

Risk Management Strategy

The Strategy (attached below) is in place to give an overview of how risk management is applied within BCC and the concepts underpinning risk management. Included within the Strategy are roles and responsibilities and reporting lines, actions required by a range of members and officers, and key milestones.

Risk Management Methodology

The BCC Risk Management Policy Statement and Strategy are companion documents to the Risk Management Methodology (attached below), which describes the method to be used for risk management in BCC. There are five elements that should be carried out in BCC's Risk Management Methodology. These are:

  • Risk / opportunity identification
  • Risk / opportunity analysis
  • Risk / opportunity prioritisation
  • Management of risks / opportunities
  • Monitoring of progress
