Lost wedding ring found as decent homes work carried out

A routine kitchen and bathroom upgrade brought unexpected joy for pensioner Irene Brown when she was reunited with her long lost wedding ring. Irene, 81, who lives in a sheltered housing complex in Sutton Coldfield, lost the gold ring eight years ago when it slipped from her hands as she dried them in the bathroom.

Heartbroken Irene and her family searched every inch of the bathroom for years afterwards without success. Irene says, "We looked everywhere for that ring, it was so precious to me. And every time workmen came into the bathroom we asked them to look out for it. But I’d given up asking by this year."

This all changed when Birmingham City Council’s engineers, from contractors Inspace, struck gold as they carried out Decent Homes work at Irene’s home. While raising the floorboards in Irene’s bathroom, they found the lost ring.
