Fireworks Spectacular at Pype Hayes

Fireworks Spectacular at Pype Hayes

There will be a traditional bonfire and fireworks display on Thursday 5 November at Pype Hayes Park, Erdington, organised by Birmingham City Council.

The council is urging people to attend safe, organised displays and focusing on a single venue this year has allowed organisers to offer free entry.

Councillor Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, said: “The safest way to enjoy fireworks is at a professionally organised event and I’m delighted that our own Fireworks Spectacular is free to enter again this year.

“This event provides an ideal opportunity for local families to have fun, in the knowledge that everything has been organised with their safety in mind at one of the many premier parks here in Birmingham.”

The best bonfire night in Birmingham promises to be a stunning night under the stars. When the gates open at 5pm, visitors will be able to experience the thrills and spills of the funfair, and warm up with some snacks. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm and the fireworks will start at 8pm.

As always, safety is highest on the agenda and visitors are asked to leave their pets and fireworks at home. Any alcohol or fireworks (including sparklers) brought on site by visitors will be confiscated and destroyed. No dogs, except guide dogs, are permitted.

Philip Le Shirley, RoSPA product safety adviser, said: “Professionally organised displays are definitely the best choice when it comes to enjoying fireworks safely. But if you are planning your own party, remember to only buy fireworks from registered retailers and steer clear of cheaper goods sold elsewhere which may not meet safety standards.

“There are plenty of other good tips for organising a safe and fun private or smaller community event on RoSPA’s fireworks website,www.saferfireworks.com, so log on to find out how to ensure your event goes with a safe bang.”
