A Revolution In free business support for Birmingham

A Revolution In free business support for Birmingham

Birmingham businesses can now benefit from free access to training, funding information, development tools, professional advice and much more, at a simple touch of a button after Birmingham City Council launched a new online support service.

Blclub.co.uk will provide easy online access to a business trading platform that provides a free online and physical support service for every type of business, individual or organisation in Birmingham.

The Birmingham site will be part of a network of similar sites, known collectively as ‘Bestforbusiness’ which operates across 22 countries – providing members with an instant platform on which to trade across the world. Key features also include:

  • Free Website, Blog, Forums
  • Over 2500 Guru TV videos
  • Free UK Business Directory
  • Potential £5000 yr business savings
  • 300 plus free downloads
  • Training
  • Business Information services
  • Legal Documentation
  • Business to Business Trading

Unlike in other UK cities, which are set to join the ‘Bestforbusiness’ network later this year, access to blclub.co.uk will be free thanks to a deal struck between the Council and providers– the usual charge for membership is £650.

67,000 businesses in Birmingham have already pre-registered to use blclub.co.uk with more than 160 new limited companies started through the service during an initial three month pilot.

2009 is the 90th anniversary of Business Insight, who as part of Birmingham City Council Library service, have been providing business information and supporting entrepreneurs in the city since 1919.

Business Insight wanted to provide a new flagship service that would have lasting benefit to as wide a community as possible and make a real impact through helping start, grow and sustain local businesses and individuals. www.blclub.co.uk is the result.

Such has been the interest so far that the platform has already won the NFEA (National Federation of Enterprise Agencies) UK award for Enterprise Innovation described by George Derbyshire CE NFEA as “With in-depth information and latest web technology services, the highly-ambitious project demonstrates how online systems can complement one-to-one business support and deliver tangible bottom line results for any business.”

Once an individual is registered it enables any business to set up their own networking club, sell direct to members locally, nationally or internationally, access information and develop their business idea to whatever level they want to take it to.

The platform shows one way forward for future Library business support services where the physical service can work in partnership with the electronic presence to improve services.
