Birmingham Poet Laureate Announcement Party

Birmingham Poet Laureate Announcement Party

Start Date: Thursday 04 October, 06.00 PM
End Date: Thursday 04 October, 08.00 PM

Elvis McGonagall

Thursday 4 October is National Poetry Day - not only do we celebrate poetry on this day, we also appoint our new Laureate too.

Pop into our Poetry Brunch at the Festival Pop-Up Bookshop (Central Library Foyer) to meet and find out who the shortlisted candidates are for Birmingham Poet Laureate 2012/2013.

The official announcement of the new Laureate will take place between 6pm - 8pm at Cafe Yumm (Custard Factory). This event will see Jan Watts share some of her thoughts as outgoing Birmingham Poet Laureate 2011/2012 .

We end the evening with our guest poet Elvis McGonagall, stand-up poet, armchair revolutionary and recumbent rocker! Elvis is the sole resident of The Graceland Caravan Park somewhere near Dundee, where he scribbles verse whilst drinking malt whisky and listening to Johnny Cash. He is also a former World Slam Champion, compere of the notorious Blue Suede Sporran Club and is one of the poets occasionally in residence on BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live.
