Birmingham-born photographer, Brian Griffin, is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential British
image-makers of recent times. Brian Griffin: Face to Face, which focuses on his acclaimed portrait work, is part of a twin-site project which includes displays from two corporate commissions - The Water People and Team - originally shown as part a major retrospective staged at international photography festival, Les Rencontresd’Arles in 2009.

Each in their own way reveal Griffin’s constant efforts to push the boundaries of photography. The exhibition has been made possible through a unique partnership of public and private sector funders who have worked together to bring Griffin's iconic work to Birmingham. Birmingham Library and Archive Services holds a collection of over 50 vintage prints by Brian Griffin. Birmingham Central Library holds a collection of some 50 vintage prints by Brian Griffin. These include works drawn from across his career and prints from his 2003 cultural portrait of Birmingham. These images will be permanently housed as part of the Library’s Photography Collections in the new Library of Birmingham when it opens in 2013.
