Welcome to Traded Services for Schools, Academies and Education settings

On the attached pages you will find listings and contact information for traded services that Birmingham City Council provides for all schools and education settings, including early years and childcare providers. Some of these services are currently developing their trading models and further details will be added over the coming months.

Most of the services on offer are subject to a charge, although in some cases the level of charge will depend upon the status of your school or setting (for example some will be at no cost to Birmingham City Council maintained schools, whereas charges will apply for Academies and others).

Building Design, Construction and Facilities Management

Admissions and Pupil Placements
The School Admissions and Pupil Placements Service (which brings together the former Admissions and Appeals Service and Pupil Connect Service) works closely with all types of schools and academies in Birmingham to offer support and guidance in relation to school admissions and appeals, missing pupils (ie those who have left school without trace), elective home education, pregnant pupils and school age parents, Key Stage 4 students who are placed in alternative education, and the quality assurance of all alternative education provision in Birmingham.

Audit
Birmingham Audit provides internal audit services, advice, guidance and training on a consultancy basis.

Behaviour Support
Behaviour Support Services help pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties to maximise their potential in the education system. With a number of teaching centres across the city, we play a dual role as both a Pupil Referral Unit and a direct support service to pupils, teachers and schools.

Building Consultancy
The Building Consultancy provides advice, solutions and approvals to meet the obligations placed on building owners / managers by the building regulations and allied legislation.

CLC Service
The Birmingham CLC Service (City Learning Centres) provides a range of support for schools, building upon its roots of ICT and pedagogical innovation.

Connexions Birmingham
Connexions Birmingham is a service providing independent, impartial careers information, advice and guidance to young people who are aged 16 to 19 (up to 25 if they have a learning difficulty or disability) and who are unemployed and looking for a college course, job, training or apprenticeship. Parts of this service are also available as a charged service to learning providers.

Education Asset Management
Offering advice, support and guidance on asset and property related issues to schools.

Education Psychology
Professional psychological services including: assessment, intervention, consultation, training, research and evaluation for children, young people and families in homes, schools and early years settings. Psychological theory and research is used to inform and address complex child and adolescent developmental concerns, including Special Educational Needs.

Schools Financial Services
A flexible partnership for finance and school business management. SFS offers a comprehensive range of financial management services and products that are designed to meet individual school requirements.

Health Education Service
The Health Education Service is a National Centre of Excellence for Citizenship and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Safeguarding. It was established in 1990 and works, locally with all schools, public health services and companies, nationally with all government departments, internationally with counterparts within the EU and across the country whilst still retaining the focus on working for the best outcomes for children and young people within Birmingham.

Human Resources
A comprehensive HR and Employee Relations service that enables schools to meet their statutory, strategic and contractual obligations.

Learning and Assessment
The Learning and Assessment Service works with schools on a range of CPD support covering curriculum, assessment and leadership and management. We also are commissioned by the Local Authority to fulfil some aspects of its statutory duty including assessment, RE and SACRE, and NQT provision and support. We are working with national bodies such as NCSL and HTI to deliver leadership programmes and support.

Legal Services
A year round service for education and children's services law for Birmingham’s schools.

Music
Birmingham Music Service provides services in support of excellence in the teaching, learning and emotional health of children and young people by responding to the requirements of schools in supporting and enhancing music education for all pupils through a programme of high quality support delivered by specialist instrumental and vocal teachers and music therapists.

Outdoor Learning Service
The Outdoor Learning Service has a network of residential and day activity centres spread throughout the Midlands and North Wales. These centres provide users with experiences designed to promote wellbeing, learning, positive attitudes, healthy lifestyles and safety using a range of creative outdoor learning opportunities, from Forest Schools and Adventurous Activities to Farm Visits and Environmental Studies.

PATHS®
PATHS® (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) is a social and emotional learning (SEL) programme for primary school children; an early intervention programme based on a curriculum developed in the US to improve social and emotional literacy, leading to benefits such as improved self control, greater ability to solve problems, a calmer more cohesive learning environment and increased educational attainment.

Payroll and Pensions Services
We provide advice and guidance on all aspects of payroll administration. Our staff have access to sophisticated information systems helping us to process nearly one million salary payments each year.

An integral part of the package is a specialist pensions service covering both the Teachers’ and Local Government Pension Schemes. Our service includes all aspects of statutory pensions’ administration together with professional advice and guidance on a range of pension scheme issues.

Pest Control
We provide a range of competitively priced treatment services and can offer a range of one off survey or treatment visits through a contract.

Procurement Services
Corporate Procurement Services (CPS) is the purchasing section for Birmingham City Council. Under our Category Management approach, our professionally qualified Commissioning and Procurement teams have expert knowledge of their market areas.

Pupil and School Support
Pupil and School Support works with schools to help pupils with cognition and learning difficulties progress and achieve to the best of their abilities.

Safety Services
Safety Services provides a health and safety consultancy service that advises schools management of their statutory duties and responsibilities. The service works with schools to create a robust health and safety culture to work towards the reduction of accidents and ill health.

School & Governor Support
School and Governor Support provides a range of professional support and advice to headteachers, senior staff and governing bodies on all aspects of school management, governance and administration.
