Sutton Coldfield is the largest parliamentary constituency in Birmingham and is sub-divided into the four electoral Wards of Sutton Four Oaks, Sutton New Hall, Sutton Trinity and Sutton Vesey. Sutton Coldfield, covers just over one fifth of Birmingham's administrative area and borders Staffordshire and Warwickshire countryside to the north and east. There is a map attached at the base of the page which shows the boundaries and when magnified, the roads and amenities.

Sutton Coldfield's recorded history spans one thousand years. The story of the town is enhanced by the activity of Bishop Vesey, who played a significant role in securing the future of Sutton Park which forms Sutton Coldfield's most dominant geographical feature. Much of the district is green space. New Hall Valley Country Park, Plantsbrook Nature Reserve, five golf courses (two are Birmingham City Council Golf Courses operated by 'My Time') and most of Birminghams green belt provide the Sutton Coldfield with its major asset. There are many public and privately owned historic buildings throughout the town; some are covered by the conservation areas of Four Oaks and the town centre.

Community Centres & Halls in Sutton Coldfield

There are three community centres in Sutton Coldfield and three community halls for hire. All occupy convenient locations close to public transport routes and other public amenities.

As well as providing a base for a range of community and sporting activities, some of the community centres also offer access to trained workers who carry out a range of community development work.

Throughout Sutton Coldfield, there is a wealth of community facilities and public and private services as well as advice services. Within these pages we aim to link to as many useful websites as possible. The town is served by Good Hope General Hospital, Birmingham Metropolitan College, Sutton Campus and good public transport links, has its own Civic Society and a range of Education for all ages services for senior citizens. Sutton Coldfield Town Hall offers the town a superb conference and concert venue and is available for hire for private parties and functions. So if you are planning to move to Sutton Coldfield or just visiting for business or pleasure then this page is a good place to start.

Funding Opportunities

Community Chest

For 2012/13 all wards in the City receive a Community Chest allocation of £100,000. This allocation enables the wards to fund schemes which support ward and neighbourhood working or contribute to extending community engagement, cohesion and empowerment.

Projects supported through this fund must also demonstrate that they support one or more of the outcomes in Birmingham’s Council Plan 2008 -2013 and Birmingham’s Community Strategy 2026.

Generally, any properly constituted organisation may submit a project proposal. You should first talk with the District Ward Support Officer to find out about what outcomes and locally identified priorities the Ward or District Committee is likely to support and the money that it has available – contact Olive O'Sullivan on 0121 303 2355 or e-mail her at olive_o'sullivan@birmingham.gov.uk

Community First

The Community First Programme is a national programme which runs over four years until 2015 and twenty seven Wards in Birmingham have funding through Community First. The programme is independent of Birmingham City Council and is managed by a national organisation, appointed by the Government, called the Community Development Foundation. Community First funding is distributed by a Community First Panel established in the Ward. A list of Community First Panels along with other information about this programme and how to access funding is available on the Community Development Foundation website.

There may be a number of other funding opportunities available, such as Big Lottery Funding for example. Your District Ward Support Officer can give you more information on this.

Registering a Birth or Death in Sutton Coldfield

Sutton Coldfield Registration Out-station is located at Second Floor, Sutton Coldfield Library, Lower Parade, B72 1XX. It operates as a satellite to Birmingham Register Office. The Sutton Coldfield Outstation operates an appointments-only system, therefore customers must telephone the dedicated numbers below before attending. These numbers are for booking appointments to register a birth or death in Sutton Coldfield - no other enquiries can be dealt with: 0121 675 2902/4 or 0121 675 1004. All telephone general enquiries, for Register Office opening times and information on how to register a birth or death are dealt with by the Birmingham Register Office on the following number: 0121 675 1000.
