Equality, Diversity, Integration and Cohesion

The mission of the Equality and Diversity Service is to provide and influence strategic leadership in order to improve equality outcomes, reduce inequalities and drive service improvement.

These pages will provide you with an insight into the work of the Equality and Diversity Service and ongoing activities that assist the City Council in delivering on its equality, diversity, integration and cohesion priorities. Equality information published: The council has posted an equality information page outlining the information held.

Council achieves top 50 place in Stonewall Equality Index: Birmingham City Council has received confirmation that it has been ranked at 39 in the annual Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. The index ranks organisations on it's achievements against a number of categories. More details around the index can be found on the Stonewall website.

Birmingham Faith Map launched: The council has launched a web site that maps and records the activities being undertaken by people of faith, or faith organisations, led and supported by Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, Gurdwaras or Temples, or other centres of religious activity and gathering, for the benefit of community groups.

The Faith Map was launched during Interfaith Week 2011 by Councillor Alan Rudge, hosted by the Dean of Birmingham, the Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, at St Philip's Cathedral.

Single Equality Framework Consultation

In response to the General Equality Duty, Birmingham City Council has published its Corporate Equality Objectives / priorities. More...

Equality and Diversity recently hosted a briefing event to update stakeholders on Birmingham City Council’s Integration and Community Cohesion Strategy, as well as the survey work carried out by Aston University around identities and engagement. Further information on this work will be posted on our Community Cohesion page.

Online Access Guide

Birmingham City Council has been working with a national disability organisation called DisabledGo to develop a pioneering new service for disabled residents and visitors. A new online access guide has been produced for around 800 venues giving detailed information on the accessibility for each venue. The guide will enable people to find out information about venues such as whether they have adapted toilets, parking close by, Braille markings in lifts or on door dimensions of toilets and position of fixtures and fittings etc.

Birmingham LGBT has launched a mapping report into LGBT lives in Birmingham. The report titled 'Out and About' was commissioned by Birmingham City Council and covers areas such as health, diversity, homophobic bullying and hate crime.

LGBT History Month is celebrated in February and more information can be found on its website.
