Birmingham City Council

Freedom of Information (FOI) Publication Scheme

Welcome to Birmingham City Council's Publication Scheme

Introduction

Birmingham City Council already makes a large amount of information available to its citizens in an open and friendly way. Information can be obtained through its website, leaflets and many other publications. The Council wants Birmingham's residents to have access to all the information they need in order that they can become involved in the Council's work.

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), Birmingham City Council is required to increase access to the information it holds, and part of the Act requires the provision of a Publication Scheme. Our Publication Scheme has been approved by the Information Commissioner, who is responsible for promoting good practice and ensuring compliance with Freedom of Information and Data Protection Laws. If you would like to view the Information Commissioner's (ICO's) guidance, please click on the link below.

Birmingham City Council's Publication Scheme provides a guide to the information routinely made available to the public.

Information not covered by the publication scheme

Not all the information the council publishes is detailed in the publication scheme. Information that is not published can be requested using the FOI request form below. Your request will be considered under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

Information that is exempt

The Freedom of Information Act sets out a range of information that is exempt from publication. If you make a request for information which the council considers to be exempted, the council will advise you of the reasons for the exemptions.
