Post 16 student travel assistance
Birmingham City Council is unable to provide travel assistance for those students who are 16 years and older and are remaining in Further Education, with the exception of those students who have special needs.
Birmingham's Post 16 Transport Policy Statement is available from our Documents page.
The Post 16 Transport Policy statements from all Local Authorities in England and Wales are available at the GOV.UK web site.
Students with Learning Difficulties and / or Disabilities
Assistance is considered by the local authority School Travel Service for those students who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs and who are either remaining at a Special School or attending the nearest appropriate School Sixth Form or College of Further Education that meets their needs. Applications are considered on their own merits.
Outside the Birmingham area
The School Travel Service can also consider helping those students with special needs that attend specialist schools / colleges outside of the Birmingham area. Further information can be obtained from your personal advisor at school or college or from your local Connexions Centre.
