Planning Committee
The Planning Committee decides the bigger and more sensitive planning applications we receive. It meets every two weeks and is made up of Councillors from across the city. It usually meets on a Thursday morning (11.00am) in the Council House in Victoria Square.
The remaining applications (approximately 80% of those received), are determined by the Chief Planning Officer on behalf of the City Council, under what are known as delegated powers.
You are welcome to attend this Committee and listen to the debate, or you can speak directly to the councillors who make the decisions on planning applications. You can now also watch the meetings online.
In these pages you will find out about:-
Attending the Committee
If you decide to attend the Planning Committee, you will be given a copy of the meeting's order of business. Copies of reports will not be available on the day of the Committee.
Should you wish to access the relevant committee report you can find it by going to our Planning Committee agendas reports and minutes page.
Not all of the reports are discussed in detail. Only those applications where Members of the Committee need clarification of the issues raised in the report will be discussed before a decision is made.
Sometimes decisions on applications are deferred so that further information can be obtained or if the Committee want to visit the site before making a decision on an application.
How both officers and Councillors deal with planning applications is set out in the Code of Practice at the bottom of the page. Certain sections of this document relate to the committee process.
