Perry Barr Ward Statistics

Perry Barr Ward, in the North Western part of the City, it includes part of the Perry Beeches Estate, Tower Hill a part of Great Barr and part of Witton. Its features include Perry Park, the Alexander Stadium , Perry Hall Playing Fields, Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium, One Stop Shopping Centre and The University of Central England.

It is part of the Parliamentary Constituency of Perry Barr.

  • According to the 2001 Population Census there were 22,704 people resident in Perry Barr.
  • 21.9% of people were aged under 16, 59% were aged between 16 and 59, while 19.1% were aged over 60.
  • The minority ethnic population made up 28.2% (6,410) of the wards population, compared with 29.6% for Birmingham.
  • 80.5% of households were owner occupied and 10.4% were rented from either the local authority, housing association or other registered social landlord. The remaining 9.1% of households rented privately or lived rent free.
  • The Census found that 10,569 (65.6%) of the population aged 16 to 74 were working or seeking work, this compared with 60.4% for Birmingham.

Public Transport.

Rail: The ward is bounded on its South- Western edge by the Birmingham - Walsall Railway Line, including Hamstead and Perry Barr stations.
Canal: The Tame Valley Canal, partly on an Telford's Aqueduct and partly through Perry Barr Locks, bisects the ward.
