Essential Information
  • If you live outside Birmingham, but wish to apply for a Birmingham primary school(s), you must apply to the local authority in which you live (i.e. the Council to which you pay your Council Tax) for their preference form. You can include Birmingham schools on that form and return it to them.

The Online Schools Directory gives information about all Birmingham schools including contact details, maps and links to each school's website, where there is one.

Frequently Asked Questions
    • Yes. If you live in Birmingham you can use our Online Admissions website to apply for schools inside and outside of Birmingham. We strongly recommend that you contact the relevant local authority for their information booklet. This will help you decide whether your application is likely to be successful based on previous year’s admissions.

    • Yes, all parents must apply in the same way. It is important that you clearly write the full name and date of birth of any older brothers or sisters that are in attendance at any of your preferred schools.

    • We may be unable to take your new address into consideration when offering your child a school place. However, you must contact School Admissions and Pupil Placement Service (see contact detail in the essential information section), to inform them of your change of address and send acceptable proof of your new address to ensure that you receive your offer letter.

    • Some schools will require you to complete an additional or supplementary information form. These forms will be available from the school or contact the School Admissions and Pupil Placements Service (see contact detail in the essential information section). You should check using the relevant booklets at the bottom of this page whether any of the schools you are interested in require this.

    • All information from parents is verified. If it is later discovered that you have provided false information the offer of the school place is liable to be withdrawn.

    • If you only list one school and your child cannot be offered a place at that school and you live in Birmingham, we will have to offer you a place at the nearest school with an available place.

    • You can decide how well a school might suit your child by going to see it for yourself. Staff from School Admissions and Pupil Placement Service may also be present and there will be maps on display showing cut off distances for the last 3 years.
