Motor Salvage Operators

Important Changes from October 2013

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 received Royal Assent on 28th February 2013, and will replace the previous registration requirements for scrap metal dealers and motor salvage operators from 1st October 2013. After that date, applications may be made for site licences and mobile collector's licences under the new legislation. Those registered under the previous legislation before 1st October 2013 will have until 15th October 2013 to submit an application for a licence under the new legislation, in order to remain licensed pending the determination of that application.

The new legislation will be fully in force from 1st December 2013.

If you wish to apply for a Scrap Metal Dealers Licence under the new legislation please visit : Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 - Licences

Before seeking a licence you should first have obtained suitable premises and planning permission - contact the Planning Department who will be abel to advise.

You may also need to hold an Environment Agency Waste Management Licence - contact the Environment Agency (also see position statement when a motor vehicle is considered to be waste).
