The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership

LEP region

The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership was set up in October 2010 to help strengthen local economies, encourage economic development and enterprise, and improve skills across the region. Its governance arrangements (Board proper) was established in May 2011.

The Partnership was initially formed of Birmingham and Solihull, with East Staffordshire, Lichfield and Tamworth, and was subsequently joined by Bromsgrove, Cannock Chase, Redditch and Wyre Forest. The Partnership is now one of the largest in the country, encompassing a population of over 1.96 million people, and is home to 840,000 jobs.

The LEP’s simple mission is “To create jobs and grow the economy – and in doing so raise the quality of life for all of the LEP’s population”. The LEP aims to achieve its mission through its plans to:

  • Increase of at least 100,000 private sector jobs by 2020;
  • Increase of at least £8.25bn GVA by 2020;
  • Unemployment levels to at least national average by 2020;
  • GVA per-head to meet national average by 2020, and exceed national average by 2025; and
  • % of the working-age population with NVQ3+ to beat the Core City LEP average by 2020, and out perform the national average by 2025.
