Central Library changes

Important news about changes at Central Library, including closure of all floors from Floor 3 upwards.

In September 2013 the Library of Birmingham opens, preparations are entering the final stages. Staff at Central Library have done an amazing job maintaining services for as long as possible, but the time has now come where we must further reduce services, intensify efforts to get ready for the move and plan for implementation of the new service model, and get ready to close the doors at Central Library forever next summer. Information Services in Central Library is now CLOSED until 3 September 2013 when the Library of Birmingham on Centenary Square will open.

From 4 January 2013 Central Library closed from Floor 3 upwards. Business and Learning services on the first floor is also closed. A much reduced library service will be available on the ground and first floors, with a basic lending library offer including children’s books and space to study.

All the computers from these floors are now located on the ground floor of the Central Library. The Health Exchange is now on Floor 1.

Access to Computers

All internet computers are now located on the ground floor of Central Library. We have retained a few computers in Information Services for checking specific databases.
