Handsworth Park

Handsworth Park occupies over 63 acres in the centre of Handsworth and is a welcome oasis for the many people who visit the area. The park has been at the heart of the community for the past 100 years and following it's restoration during 2004 and 2006 continues to be popular with families, dog-walkers and school children (for more information on the re development of the park please refer to the attached document at the foot of this page).

The park has played host to a variety of both Council and Community organised events - from Vaisakhi with its huge processions to the Marcus Garvey Festival with music and entertainment. The Classroom in the Park attracts families and children to enjoy the history, fauna and flora of the park.

Recreation - With the Leisure Centre and Play Centre, the play and sporting facilities, the lake and the boathouse Handsworth is a park that offers something for all.

Play Areas - Handsworth Park has two play areas, both of which are located near the Leisure Centre off the Holly Road entrance. The main area is in two parts for younger and older children. The second area includes a multi use games area (MUGA).

Boating - Boat hire is available from the Boathouse during the summer months (usually between May and September).

Cricket - Handsworth Cricket Club operates from within the park. For more information and details of how to participate please visit their website at http://handsworthcc.play-cricket.com/

Refreshments - The Boat House cafe with its picturesque view right by the lake is open every day between 10am & 7pm (opening times may be reduced in the winter).
2013 will also see the introduction of a cafe at the Sons of Rest Building near the Holly Road entrance.

Events - The Ranger Service offers a wide range of activities and events such as nature walks, practical conservation activities and general activities with play centres and community groups. The service also runs one-off events for community groups and organisations, for example, mosques, temples, churches and playgroups.

Education - The Ranger Service offers activities for schools. At most of our events a speaker of Urdu, Punjabi and Mirpuri will be available.

Toilets - Public toilets including disabled facilities are available at the Leisure Centre.
