The Family Information Service (FIS) provides free, confidential and impartial advice, support and guidance on all aspects of child care and a wide range of services that may support children, young people and families.
We can provide you with information on:
Looking for Child Care – Whether you are looking for part time or full time child care, out of school clubs or holiday clubs, we can help you find the right type of quality child care which best suits your needs and the needs and age of your child.
School Holidays – What’s on in Birmingham.
Choosing Child Care – You need to feel confident about the child care setting you choose for your child.
Free Early Learning for 2 Year Olds – is available to families who meet certain criteria. You will need to contact the Early Years and Child Care Service to find out more about this funding.
Free Nursery Education Funding for 3 and 4 Year Olds – for children in nursery education before they start school.
Information and Support for Child Care Providers
Additional Support Services – we can signpost you to organisations that can provide support, advice and information to children and young people with a disability, including information on how to join the Children’s Disabled Register (FIS Plus).
Children’s Centres – There are currently 61 children’s centres across Birmingham who can offer you advice, help and support with child care, early education, health, family support, training and employment services etc.
Working in Child Care – Information on how the Early Years and Child Care Service can offer you advice, help and support, whether you are thinking about a career working with children or just starting out as a child care provider.
Child Care Sufficiency Assessment - involves analysing the demand for child care, mapping the support of child care and identifying any gaps in child care provision within the City.
