Every year Birmingham City Council investigates thousands of reports of abandoned vehicles. Some of these turn out to be genuinely abandoned and have to be removed and destroyed after enquiries into their ownership.
If you think a vehicle has been abandoned in your area, please ensure you have the following details available when you report it to us:
- Has the vehicle got a valid tax disc? Please note, if the vehicle is taxed, it is not technically abandoned and cannot be reported as abandoned
- The exact location of the vehicle
- The vehicle make, model and colour
- The vehicle registration number

As soon as we receive your report about a suspected abandoned vehicle investigations will commence and the vehicle will be removed if appropriate. If there is a keeper, the vehicle cannot be removed by the Council.
Investigations into the status of an abandoned vehicle may take some time as older vehicles, typically reported as abandoned, may have changed hands several times.
Removal of Unwanted Vehicles: If you live in Birmingham and have a vehicle you no longer want, the Council can arrange for free removal and destruction. All you need to do is complete a Removal Consent Form and send it to us, along with the vehicle’s log book. We will then arrange for our contractor to collect the vehicle from you for safe disposal. The log book will be sent to the DVLA to inform them the vehicle has been officially destroyed.
